My niece recently got married in Hong Kong. She is Chinese-American and her husband is Iranian-American. Photo one and two show the wedding decoration. The third photo shows a very unusual custom that is so different that I have never seen before. Four ladies who have fulfilling lives, including me, were asked to hold on to the four corners of a sheer cloth over the couple’s heads; then a fifth lady poured sugar over the cloth and helped to get the sugar to go through the cloth to drop on the couple. Such custom, I was told, is to assure that the newly wed will have a sweet life together.
